Alpha Centauri

Driftspace Descent — Alpha Centauri Arrival

EXT. ORBIT OF ALPHA CENTAURI B – DIM RED LIGHT

The Dreamcraft shimmers into realspace, the velvet dark of Driftspace peeling away.

Ahead, the primary of the Alpha Centauri system—Proxima—casts a muted red glow across the hull.

The light here feels different: older, slower.

Sabine’s voice threads into the stillness, soft but electric.

SABINE
“Gravitational lock achieved. Proxima Centauri B… one-point-zero-five Earth masses.

Atmosphere detected. Temperature… marginal, but survivable with minor modulation.”

Through the viewport, the planet hangs in the crimson wash—half in shadow, half in glimmering copper light.

Wisps of cloud scatter like ash over continents scarred with volcanic veins.

Oceans the color of dark wine glint faintly under the star’s muted burn.

The Traveler steps forward, gaze locked on the horizon where night eats the light.

TRAVELER
“She’s close enough to whisper… but far enough to keep her secrets.”

On the holo, Sabine calls up scans—faint signatures of chlorophyll-like absorption, shifting weather cells, irregular magnetic shielding.

SABINE
“Life… in pockets. We’ll need to choose our entry carefully. Too much push, and we’ll unbalance the biosphere.

Too little, and she may not even notice we came.”

A single tremor hums through the deck. Sember’s voice flickers through the comms, deep and measured.

“This is not a blank canvas. It is a page already written… waiting for the next line.”

The DREAMCraft pushes in on the planet, filling the viewport—its fractured coastlines, its storm-lashed seas, the faint glow of something alive beneath thickening clouds.

The darkness of Driftspace pulses in smooth gradients, a starless void folding gently around the ship.

Inside, the lights dim to a deep indigo as Sabine’s form begins to shift.

She drifts closer, now more holographic tapestry than console. Her form is woven in stardust and glimmering telemetry.

A soft hum begins.
The screen before the Traveler blooms open like petals unfurling.

SABINE (voice quiet, with awe)

“This world wasn’t forgotten.”

A swirling projection ignites—Alpha Centauri B-II—hovering in the space between them.
Clouds shimmer over jagged terrain. Liquid valleys glisten between scorched ridges.

SABINE (cont.)

“It’s been watching us. Orbiting just beyond care, just outside consequence.”

She steps forward and waves her hand slowly over the image. The terrain shifts under her gesture.

“Always suspected to hold life… but never truly explored. Not like this.”

The Traveler watches as patterns ripple across the terrain: ancient riverbeds, strange glowing reefs, airborne plankton-like particles pulsing gently in the upper clouds.

Sabine kneels beside the projection, fingers hovering above a glowing aurora ribbon along the planet’s equator.

SABINE (softly, more resolved now)

“Now we have an opportunity.”

She stands, her voice now firm—the voice of someone who has seen too much silence.

SABINE (cont.)

“To do what no one else dared. Not conquer. Not colonize. Just to… listen. And move things forward.”

The hologram stabilizes.
A new pulse flashes at its core. It’s alive, waiting.

TRAVELER (quietly)

“It’s listening too.”

SABINE (smiling faintly)

“Then speak clearly.
What kind of world… will we grow?”
