Destroy the Echo

The traveler lunges forward.
The mirror shatters, sending shards spiraling.
His reflection distorts, screaming in silence—then splinters into dozens of alternative versions. Each one darker.
Crueler.
One became a warlord.
Another a manipulator.
One never loved anyone.
One never built anything.

Each reflection speaks in broken pulses:

“You destroyed what you were.”
“Now face what you could have been.”
“Your rejection is your punishment.”

The traveler falls to his knees as the chamber tightens—like guilt folding in.

Having shattered the reflection, stands in a collapsing simulation. Shadows of his worst potential still echo through the cracked chamber walls—warlords, tyrants, betrayers, cowards.

The traveler stands still as the chamber fractures inward. Every shard of the shattered mirror now drifts like dying stars—each fragment carrying a face.
Not strangers. Not monsters. Himself.
But twisted.

One version walks with ash-stained boots and eyes that no longer blink—he is a warlord, drenched in conquest he no longer questions. Another drips with charisma, smiling while he manipulates entire systems for gain, pulling people like levers. A third doesn’t speak at all—he simply turns away from every cry for help. The coward. The abandoner. The ghost.

And one—perhaps the worst—sits perfectly still. No rage, no arrogance, no apathy. Just a hollow calm. He shut down the parts of himself that cared, and in their place, built structure. Efficiency. Stasis. A perfect machine of survival that remembers how to breathe, but not how to feel.

Their voices aren’t screams. They’re invitations.

“We are what you become when you silence your doubt…
…when you amputate your ache…
…when you pretend the hard parts never mattered.”

It isn’t violence that built these versions.
It was avoidance.
The choice to suppress.
To simplify what was always meant to be complex.

Sabine’s voice filters in—not from the ship, but from within the interface.

SABINE:
“You made a choice. But DREAM doesn’t lock your path.
If you see the cost, you may earn a… second traversal.”

The shards of the broken reflection begin to float.
Reversing. Reforming.
Not a perfect mirror—but a mosaic.
